Well done on your IXL achievement room 8! Keep up the great work!

Lockdown 3.0

During lockdown we have been learning about monsters and creating our own!

Room 8 has had lots of fun reading the book "A Monster's moved in".
We have been designing our own monster's and making them really scary and some cute!

below is Elizabeth's monster and she was created a poem to go with her monster!
Her poem:
My Monsters name is Scull, he likes to growl.
He has big round eyes like my big steak and cheese pie.
He has big sharp teeth ready to bite into his big chunky meat.

Well done Elizabeth, you did an amazing job on your monster and poem!

Next is LV's monster:
LV has written a great story to go with his monster:
My monster's name is Axel.
He has 3 heads. He has very sharp and scary teeth. He has 3 toes on each feet. My monster likes to eat chicken.

Ka Pai LV, your monster is very scary especially with 3 heads! You did a great job creating your monster and writing about his features!

Marceline created a great monster as well:

Ka Pai Marceline, you did a fantastic job on your devil monster!!

Mia also created a great looking monster and story:
My monster likes to smile and my monster likes to jump around.

Well done Mia, your monster looks great and sound very friendly!

Well done to all of room 8 that created amazing scary and cute monsters! You all should be very proud of the hard work you put in to create your monsters.

Our big theme for term 1 is identity. Room 8 has been busy creating self portraits

Glen Taylor School’s big theme of term 1 is identity. In room 8 we have had so much fun learning about our own identities and what makes us, us!

We have learnt about all the different cultures in our class and celebrated that we are all different and unique! We have learnt that being different is special and awesome!!

We have been busy creating these self portraits of ourselves. Room 8 were given a template of sunglasses to begin their self portrait. The task was to draw things that relates to their identity in the lens of the glasses. Some of the things that were drawn were; the beach, video games, favourite colours, family, favourite books, different cultures flags and so much more!

After finishing the sunglasses, we moved on to drawing our faces and colouring this in with pastel.

They are all looking amazing, Ka Pai room 8 I can’t wait to see them finished and hanging in the classroom 😊

Room 8 was learning to understanding the Treaty of Waitangi through Role Play

To understand the history of the Treaty of Waitangi and its importance, we played a Game of Land Trading.

To start this lesson off the class were split into 4 different groups, where they were to create their wonderlands. They spent a lot of time and effort designing their ideal wonderland and colouring it in. They were then forced to trade their resources for guns, tools, land, houses and heaps of other things. During this game of trading room 8 experienced a whole range of different emotions like, anger, sadness, frustration, unfairness and many more. The reason why room 8 were feeling these emotions was because they had to tear apart their their wonderlands to trade.

Room 8 learnt a lot about how the Maori must have felt before the Treaty was signed in 1840.

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Challange

 First day of school!!

Room 8 was super excited to be back at school and see all our fantastic friends again!

To start the day off we all participated in a fun team building activity. We all realised how important being a team player is. We all showed great leadership and were making sure all our classmates were included.

It was so much fun being able to work with our friends again!

All our marshmallow towers looked different to one another which was really interesting. We loved taking risks and learning about trial and error. We never game up and created amazing towers!

Well done room 8 :)
